Protect Yourself from Pension Scams

⚠️Warning

Pension scams can be difficult to spot and can have devastating consequences. Scammers may contact you unexpectedly by phone, email, text message, social media or through professional-looking websites.

How to Protect Yourself

Before making any pension decisions:

✅ Take your time and never feel pressured.

✅ Verify the identity and credentials of anyone contacting you about your pension.

✅ Check that advisers and firms are authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

✅ Request all information in writing and review it carefully.

✅ Seek guidance from Pension Wise or obtain regulated financial advice.

✅ Contact Trafalgar House if you are considering transferring your benefits.

🔎Check Before You Transfer

Taking a few extra days to verify information could protect your retirement savings from fraud.

Common Warning Signs

Be cautious if you are offered:

  • Early access to your pension before age 55 (except in very limited circumstances).
  • Guaranteed high investment returns.
  • Time-limited offers or pressure to act quickly.
  • Free pension reviews from firms you do not know.
  • Investments in unusual assets such as overseas property, forestry or cryptocurrencies.
  • Cashback, loans or incentives linked to pension transfers.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

If You Suspect a Scam

  • Stop communicating with the individual or organisation.
  • Do not provide personal, banking or pension information.
  • Report your concerns to Report Fraud if you are in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. (Residents in Scotland should report directly to Police Scotland by calling 101).
  • Contact Trafalgar House immediately.

🆘Think You May Have Been Targeted?
