At the end of 2021, the three legacy Defined Benefit schemes sponsored by EDF in the UK (BEGG, EEPS & EEGS) were consolidated into BEGG and renamed as the EDF Group of the ESPS (EDFG or ‘the Group’). The Principal Employer of EDFG is EDF Energy Nuclear Generation Limited (the Company).

A Trustee Company, EDFG Trustee Limited (‘the Trustee’), runs EDFG on behalf of everyone entitled to benefit from it. The Trustee comprises of ten Trustee Directors; three of whom are selected from the membership with the Company appointing three further Trustee Directors, as well as a Chair.

The assets of EDFG are entirely separate from those of the Company. The Trustee is responsible for looking after the assets of the Group for the benefit of its members and is legally responsible for doing so. There are more details about this in the Disclosure tab.

Each year, other than a valuation year, the Trustee receives an annual actuarial report and publishes a Summary Funding Statement from it to all EDFG members. This can be found within the September 2023 Member Update. This gives information about the financial development of the Group. The Group’s annual report and accounts are available to members on My Work Pension.

The Trust Deed and Rules and Pensions Legislation

The Trustee must run the Group in line with its Trust Deed and Rules, which are available on My Work Pension. These are the legal documents that set out their powers and responsibilities, the role of the Company, and members’ rights and conditions. The Trust Deed and Rules meet current HM Revenue & Customs requirements. The Trustee must also comply with pensions legislation. This allows the Group to register for favourable tax treatment.
